General

What are your hours?

Our box office is open from 2-6PM Tuesdays-Fridays. On weekends, the box office is open one hour before curtain time for same day sales and between curtain times for advance sales. The box office can be reached at 212-279-4200.

The administrative office hours for Playwrights Horizons are 10 AM–6 PM, Monday through Friday, and the office can be reached at 212-564-1235. Both the administrative office and Box Office are located at 416 West 42 Street.

Season Packages

What shows are included in a season package?

Check out our 24/25 season, packed with six daring premieres. As a season package holder, you will have access to early booking for all of them at some of the best prices, with a suite of great perks.

What packages can I get for the 24/25 season?

Choose from:

Flex Pass: Choose a 4-, 6-, 8-, or 12-ticket Flex Pass to snag the best seats at the best prices — plus, enjoy special perks, like early booking, 50% off one drink per ticket at concessions, and more.

Access Passport: Join for free and get discounted tickets to the accessible performance of your choice (restrictions apply).

Young or Student Membership: Are you a student?  Are you under 35? Grab your student or young membership for free and get discounted seats to our shows (restrictions may apply). On sale late summer 2024.

Are you still offering "+Friend" add-ons?

No, we are no longer offering "+Friend" add-ons. Want to book even earlier? Consider becoming a GenPH or Patron member.

Are you still offering memberships?

Playwrights Horizons is no longer offering memberships, which previously granted audience members access to $25 preview seats for the full season for a $60 fee. However, if you would like to become more involved and get exclusive insider access to events with our artists, become a member of our Patron or Gen PH Programs.

What should I do if I want to show my loyalty to Playwrights Horizons?

Join our Patron or GenPH Program! Our supporters have the opportunity to experience theater in a new way — talk to writers about their process, see new work in its infancy in workshops and readings, and meet the artists and creative teams behind the curtain. I renewed my package during the early renewal period. What does that mean?

If you renewed your 24/25 season package during the early renewal period, you get to book your tickets a week before everyone else, and enjoy a free drink per ticket at concessions.

I have a season package. How do I use my tickets/benefits?

To book tickets, you can log in to your account, or call at 212-279-4200.

Can I get restaurant discounts with my season package?

Yes! Our evolving list of neighborhood partnerships and discounts can be found here.

Young and Student Memberships

24/25 Young and Student Memberships will be available to book in late summer 2024.

Do Young and Student Memberships expire?

Yes, all memberships expire at the end of each season. At the start of a new season, you will need to renew by signing up for the young/student membership again before ordering any tickets. 24/25 Young and Student Memberships will be available to book in late summer 2024.

I got my 23/24 Young/Student Membership! How do I reserve tickets with it?

You can log into your account on our website and discounted option tickets should appear when you go to reserve tickets. You may also call the box office at 212-279-4200.

What do I do if I added a Young or Student Membership but can’t see the discount pricing when I go to book tickets?

Make sure you are logged into your account. Did you just reserve a Young/Student Membership? It takes 24 hours for the membership to become active on your account after you add it — try booking your tickets tomorrow.

Can I exchange my Young or Student Membership tickets?

Yes, there is a $5 fee per ticket. Exchange requests must be received at least 24 hours in advance of the performance.

Do I have to provide proof of age or student status?

Yes. Please bring a student ID or ID with date of birth when you pick up your tickets.

Which shows are eligible for the Young or Student Membership discount?

Any show within the Playwrights Horizons season.

What seats are eligible for discounted tickets?

All non-premium seats are eligible for discounted tickets — hover over the red seats on the seat map and the $20-$30 option will appear.

Access Passport

Who is the Access Passport for?

Do you plan to take advantage of a relaxed performance, an audio-described performance, a touch tour, an ASL-interpreted performance, or GalaPro closed captioning during our 2024/25 season? If so, choose an Access Passport. Join for free and get discounted tickets to the accessible performance of your choice (restrictions apply). Reserve yours for free!

Do I have to pay to get an Access Passport?

No! You can join for free here. The Access Passport is free to join and you can purchase discounted tickets on a pay-as-you-go basis.

How do I use my Access Passport?

You can log into your account to book online, purchase tickets in person at the box office, call the box office at 212-279-4200 during box office hours, or send an email to accessibility@phnyc.org for assistance.

What seats/performances are eligible to reserve with the Access Passport?

All productions within the Playwrights Horizons season will include accessible offerings.

Designated seats with the best view of interpreters will be set aside for ASL-Interpreted performances and can be reserved by Access Passport holders.

Designated seats will be set aside for Blind/Low Vision Passport holders at Audio Description performances. Access Passport Holders are not restricted to those designated seats — you are welcome to reserve any seat.

All seats are available for Relaxed Performances and the select GalaPro performances.

Single Tickets

I'm having difficulty getting tickets online. What should I do?

You can call 212-279-4200 for booking assistance, or email tickets@phnyc.org. They will get back to you as soon as they can during business hours.

I lost my tickets – what now?

Don’t worry! Visit our box office with identification upon arriving at the theater and they can print you new tickets.

Can someone else pick up my tickets for me?

Yes, just call 212-279-4200 to let them know who will be picking them up.

Do you have discounted rush tickets?

Do you have group ticket discounts?

We offer a discount for students and other groups of 10 or more. You can call 212-279-4200 for more information, or find out more in Group Sales.

Performances

Where can I find the run time of a production?

Once we have confirmed the run time, it will be published in the Calendar + Info section of each production's show page.

Do you have an age recommendation for productions?

Content Transparency Statements are published in the Calendar + Info section of each production's show page.

How do I get to the theater?

Directions and maps are available in the Getting Here page.

Where can I park?

There is a parking garage a block away, at 475 West 41 Street. Discounted parking is available at MPG Parking.

Can I store my suitcase, shopping bags, etc.?

The production’s house manager will be happy to store your bag for the duration of the performance but cannot assume liability for your belongings.

Do you have a lost and found?

Yes, you can email housemanager@phnyc.org to check and see if your item has been found.

What is your policy on mobile devices?

We ask that guests silence ringers on all mobile devices prior to the beginning of every performance, but we hope you’ll connect with us online. Keep an eye out in the program and lobby for a hashtag to use on social media and tag us at @phnyc on Twitter or Instagram, or at Playwrights Horizons on Facebook!

Audience members who are deaf or hard of hearing, however, can see captions during select performances with a Playwrights Horizons loaned or personal closed captioning device that may remain on and in use during the performance. These devices may include a cell phone, a tablet, or an iPad/iPod. These devices utilize an app (GalaPro) that offers digital text displays that emanate some light. Please join us in creating a safe and inclusive space for all patrons. If the small glare of the screen from someone else's device affects your enjoyment of the production, please speak with a member of the FOH staff.

What if I arrive late to the performance?

Late seating is at the discretion of management for each performance.

Is your venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes, we have wheelchair accessible seating in both our theaters. Seating charts are available here. Please contact our box office at 212-279-4200 or email accessibility@phnyc.org with any questions.

Do you provide assisted listening devices or Closed Captioned performances?

We have assisted listening devices available at every performance in both of our theaters. Our productions also offer GalaPro, a free app for smartphones and devices, delivering closed captions at all performances after opening night for each show.

What is your mask policy?

Currently, wearing face masks is optional, but encouraged. See our Health Guidelines for more information.

Certain performances may be deemed "masks required" but will be clearly notes as such on our performance and event calendar and via the ticketing website and checkout process.

What kind of concessions are offered at performances?

For shows in the Mainstage theater, we offer alcholic and non-alcoholic beverages, candy, and snacks! These may be consumed in the theater. 

What if I cannot attend my performance?

Visit our Ticket Exchange Policy for more information on how to exchange your tickets. All exchanges should be requested at least 24 hours in advance

What if a performance is cancelled?

In the unlikely event that we need to cancel a performance, you’ll hear from us through the email address and/or text message to the phone number you provided when booking tickets.

Work at Playwrights

Do you accept play submissions?

We have an open submission policy for full-length, original plays by living American writers. Find out more in Play Submissions.

Can I audition for your shows?

You can reach out to our casting department if you’re interested in auditioning or inviting a representative to a showcase. You can find contact information in the Casting section of Jobs.

Can I usher at Playwrights?

We enlist the services of volunteer ushers for our productions. You can find contact information in the Volunteer Usher section of Jobs.

Do you rent spaces to outside groups?

We rent rehearsal rooms and theaters based on availability. Find out more in Space Rental.

Do you have any job openings?

We continually update the Employment Opportunities section of Jobs with available positions. Check in periodically for updates.

Do you offer any internships?

We offer practical experience training through our Theatrical Fellowship program. Fellowship positions are season-long, or occasionally summer positions. Find out more about the Fellowship program in the Internships section of Jobs.

Why is it “Playwrights Horizons” and not Playwrights’ Horizons?

Our founder Bob Moss says he knows there was a reason, but doesn’t remember why. You’ll also see references to Playwrights sometimes, which is short for our theater's full title.
